Saturday Ride . . . Los Burros!

Ride Report May 31: Wow, what a ride last weekend! Fifteen brave souls showed up for the "high intermediate" ride which included the Flume connector, Timber Mesa, Sawmill, and Panorama. Everyone loved 🥰 the loose cinder climb on Flume from the Panorama trailhead which got us started. Well, perhaps that embellishing it a little . . . but we did survive and after that life was pretty darned good. We had a lot of takers for the rock drop on Sawmill!

Why is it that cameras flatten terrain so much? This is actually pretty scary to ride, but the photo makes it look so sedate!

We also got a great photo of our very large group at a nice lookout later on down the Sawmill Connector.

By the time it was all said and done, we had about fourteen miles in. But I had a feeling some in the group wanted more. Which is what will provide, when next weekend we go to . . .

Los Burros, July 7th, 7:00 a.m.: Yep, that's our next group ride. Los Burros is one of the gems of the White Mountain Trail System and even though it is a little bit of a pull to get out there to the Los Burros Campground (Trailhead #1, which is where we will start), it is totally worth what you invest in terms of your time. It's higher elevation ride that has Ponderosa Pines, Douglas Firs, Aspen and some otherwise really nice scenery. For anyone that hasn't been there, before, Los Burros is another ride that probably falls into the high intermediate group in terms of difficulty, mostly owing to one fairly steep and technical climb. Aside from that, it is pretty smooth sailing. The length of the full loop is about fourteen miles, but there is a shortcut to the trailhead that is fun and available if you aren't able to cover the whole distance.

As always, intermediate MTB skills are recommended along with plenty of water. Our pace will be moderate, but as always, it is a "no-drop" ride, meaning we aren't leaving anyone out in the forest. If you don't know how to get there, here's the information on the trail and directions from the TRACKS website: https://trackswhitemountains.org/take-a-hike/los-burros-631/

And Don't Forget to Order Your New Jersey: Yes, just a reminder. The 2nd generation Walter jersey is now available which celebrates and helps to fund the development of the Buena Vista trails area. Order yours today, because the batch order period ends on June 20th, 2025! You can go directly to Jakroo and order your jersey to size right here: https://jakroo.com/store-front?storeId=B1lX_3PwMgx.
