Saturday Ride 9/26, Chihuahua Pines Word Days

Saturday Ride: Well, it sure looks as if we've dodged a bullet as far as our Saturday morning ride goes. The forecast has been looking awfully wet this week, but it just hasn't panned out that way. Maybe not so good for our continued thirst for water here in Arizona, but it does translate into something positive for us!

Everyone enjoying the fall flowers that have been provided to us courtesy of the monsoon? The area near the BV trailhead has been especially colorful for the last month!

This week, our group ride will be in the Buena Vista trails. Meet at the BV trailhead about two miles south of Show Low off Highway 60. Given the generally cooler weather of fall, it seems to be time to roll back the start time of the ride to 8:00 a.m. So yeah, we not only get to ride, you get another hour of shut-eye on Saturday. Who says you can't have it all?

As folks know, the Buena Vista area offers generally intermediate level riding, and we'll run about 12-15 miles before returning to the trailhead about 10:00 or so. So please come join us . . . and before coming out, give a call to that riding buddy who has been in kind of a riding slump lately and needs to blow some of the dust off that bike. Everyone needs some prodding now and then, and the weekend chores can be done after the ride.

Chihuahua Pines Build Days, 10/5 and 10/19: Prep work has been underway getting the new east side of the Chihuahua Pines Connector re-routed for the last few weeks. We've been clearing out the trail corridor and making it more clear exactly where the trail needs to be built for our TRACKS trail crew days that are scheduled for Monday, October 5th and Monday, October 19th. If you can join us out there those days we can use all of the hands we can get. There is some technical trail building to do. We will be building crib walls, deep bench cuts, and building some berms in several spots along the way. Doing that kind of work is slow and labor intensive . . . but at the same time very rewarding!

If you are retired or can take some time off work for just 1/2 of a day, please come help! We'll likely be starting at 7:00 a.m. and are unlikely to work past 11:00. More will be posted closer to the dates, but if you can clear your calendar for this now it would be appreciated! This is your chance to leave your personal mark on improvements within the Buena Vista area!
