Pinewood Showdown Weekend/Chihuahua Pines Trail Build Days
Pinewood Showdown Weekend: Great news for the gravel grinding types . . . the weekend of the Pinewood Showdown gravel race has arrived. The event is this Saturday, September 19th! As a result of the Pinewood Showdown event, for which many locals have volunteered to work or are riding in, there will be no Saturday group ride scheduled this weekend.
In connection with the Pinewood derby, Masi Bikes has donated a $3,300 gravel bike frame that will be raffled off at the Pinewood Showdown with 100% of the proceeds going to TRACKS. This bike is a brand-new model just introduced in August. The frame will be shipped to the winner in the size of their choosing. https://masibikes.com/products/oltre-strada.
Raffle tickets will be sold on site on September 18th and 19th with the drawing at the awards ceremony Saturday afternoon. Chihuahua Pines Trail Trail Build Days: As we work toward our goal of finishing the Buena Vista project this fall, TRACKS has scheduled two days to build a new Chihuahua Pines Connector trail on the east side of highway 60. Those days are going to be Monday, October 5th, and Monday, October 19th. Work is already underway clearing out the trail corridor so that it will be ready for the TRACKS trail crew when those days arrive, but we will be needing a lot of help with this build. We have a fair amount of benching and building of crib walls that will need to be done in association with this build, meaning we need some young strong people out there!
Presentations Show Low City Council/Board of Supervisors: TRACKS and STBVF made a presentation to the Show Low City Council on Tuesday, September 15th updating them on the progress of the Buena Vista project. A similar presentation will be made to the Navajo County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, October 22nd. These are great opportunities to showcase the work we've been doing on local trails and show civic leaders how their investments in the local trails have turned into tangible results. We are also sharing with them the road map for the future redesign and builds of the Chihuahua Pines Corridor between the Buena Vista area and Los Caballos area, and Los Caballos itself. The investments in trails help make our community a great place to live in and a target destination for outdoor lovers from all over who are looking for a place to enjoy family vacations and long weekends in the mountains.
