Halloween Ride Tomorrow!
Halloween Ride: OK ghosts and goblins, the big day arrives tomorrow! The annual Halloween Ride in the Buena Vista Secret Trails! We escaped yesterday's cold front with nominal precipitation which means the ride is on for sure!

Scared yet?
Meet at 6:00 p.m. Halloween night at the end of Wagon Wheel Lane in Lakeside as we'll enter through the Starlight Ridge trail entrance. You probably want to get there a little bit early as ride coordinator Carol Godwin has glow lights to distribute for the ride. Temperature at ride time will be about 44 degrees but with little or no wind, it should not be terribly cold.
The route will include Below the B'Backs, Uncle Tom's, Dome Rock, Grindstone, Trailfairies, and then back to the trailhead via Below the B'Backs. All in all, this is about a five-mile ride with about 375 ft. of total elevation gain. The ride will last an estimated one hour or so. The pace will be just fast enough to avoid being devoured by monsters.
If you are bringing kids along, just make sure that they have some level of comfort riding basic easy trails in the daylight. The trails we will be using are all beginner to intermediate level trails, with the only real challenges being a tree squeeze on Dome Rock and some switchbacks on Trailfairies.
Remember to charge your lights today! For night rides two lights are typically recommended, one on the handlebars, the other a helmet mounted light. You don't need blowtorches for this ride, basic entry level lights will do the trick..
Costumes are certainly welcome but not required. Just make sure that they will not be the type of costumes that can get tangled in your bike chain or wheels. Bike decorations are certainly welcome too. Here's one fine example from last year:

We have Halloween treats after the ride for all the brave souls who are still living at the end of the ride! Hope for a good turnout, the more the spookier!
