BV Ribbon Cutting Tomorrow! Saturday Ride Plan
Ribbon Cutting Tomorrow: Well, the Tour of the White Mountains is in the books and that means our season for working on and using our trails is winding down a little bit. But there is still something pretty special left on the agenda. After ten long years, tomorrow is finally ribbon cutting day which will make the new Buena Vista official! It's been a long time coming, but it will be a day to share our success with all of our community partners who have made this possible.
So come out tomorrow and be part of it. We are doing this between 11:30 and 1:30 tomorrow at the Old Pavilion in Show Low City Park. If you don't work tomorrow or if you can step out for lunch, come by and say hello. We'll have food, beverages, and even a Walter cake to cut thanks to STBVF board member Dave Moore!

Come have a piece of Walter and thank the many folks who made it all possible, including your leaders from the USFS, the City of Show Low, Navajo County, TRACKS and many others. Peggy Lund will be present to say a few words on behalf the recently departed Nick Lund. As many remember, Nick was with us when this whole project began. He still is in spirit I'm quite sure, riding that single-track in sky.
Saturday Ride Information: Saturday morning the group ride is going to be, of course, in the Buena Vista trails. Our first ride in the "official" and almost complete trails. As usual, we'll run it about 12-15 miles, beginning at 8:00 a.m. from the Buena Vista trailhead. In case you've not been there, that's about two miles south of Show Low off highway 60. Look for the "Buena Vista #637" sign and turn there.
It's an intermediate level ride, and we should be done right around 10:00 a.m.
Trail Work: And this newsletter wouldn't be complete without a discussion of trail work. The TRACKS trail crew worked their butts off on the Chihuahua Pines re-route on Monday. We are building from the tunnel under Highway 60 up to Flintstone, and we might be about 1/3 of the way complete with the project. The terrain we worked on on Monday is very steep and rocky and presents all kinds of interesting challenges for us. But the work we've completed looks excellent. Hats off to everyone that came out on Monday. We didn't cover a lot of ground, but what we did is really sweet.
It is too late to help out? No it is not. We have one more big trail work day scheduled with the TRACKS crew on Monday, October 19th. Details will be coming in next week's blog, but if you can come out and help we'd definitely appreciate all the hands we can get. With enough hands and a little luck, we might be able to come close to calling this year's new trail projects finished!
