BV Progress Report/Saturday Ride in the Buena

Buena Vista Progress Report: Hey everyone! Another busy week of trail work is in the books out in the Buena Vista Trail system. Thanks so much to the TRACKS trail crew what is working it every Monday, the ad hoc workers that are helping out and getting things done on other days days, and the big showing of help and support we got last Saturday morning. The work going on is incredible! Here's where we stand right now:

1. Rainbows: The regular TRACKS trail crew finished Rainbows on Monday. There is still a little finish work that will be taken care of, but essentially, it is done. The trail rides like you'd expect a new trail to ride . . . a little loose (it will stay that way until we get some meaningful rain) and a little bumpy in spots. But as the trail gets ridden in that problem is going to go way. The results out there look good! You can all help us by riding Rainbows as much as possible to get it to come in as the green level trail it is designed to be.

2. Trail Signs: New trail map of the BV area as re-designed has been posted. Only about 25% of the trail signs are up as of right now. More signs are going up weekly.

3. White Diamonds: About 75% of the white diamonds that needed to go up have been placed at this point. The Buena Vista trail itself and every trail east of Grindstone has it diamonds now. All of the old white diamonds on the old Buena Vista loops have been removed. Goodbye and rood riddance old Buena!

4. Differential: The re-route of Differential started Saturday, and the crew that turned out did an incredible job! A path was cleared through the manzanita thicket and the trail was started with a big, beautiful bench cut into the side of the mountain. This is high-level trail building and the end result is going to be nice!

5. Sunshine: Trail corridor cleared, roughed in, 0% complete. TRACKS begins work on Sunshine Monday morning at 7:00 a.m. Come on out and join us!

6. Petrified: Bench cutting work has started in one area and a 'Y" intersection was added at the south junction of Petrified and Buena Vista. Lots of work left to do.

7. Chihuahua Pines: Not started..

8. Old "El Cucuy Re-Route (Now part of Flintsone): Not started.

We are planning on doing another trail "Give Back" day on Friday July 3rd, as it is 4th of July weekend and a number of people may have the day off. Right now, the plan is to meet at 7:00 a.m. at the BV trailhead and to work for 3-4 hours. Details will follow as the event gets closer, but plan to come out and help us that day if at all possible!

Saturday Morning Ride: And yes, we are still trying to have a little bit of fun, even with all the work we have going on! This coming Saturday, we'll be riding the Buena Vista area again, meeting at 7:30 a.m. in the Buena Vista trail parking lot, about two miles south of Show Low off of highway 60. This is an intermediate level MTB ride and will run about 12-15 miles. We should be back at the parking lot by 9:30 or so if everything goes according to plan. As always, this is a social paced "no-drop" ride where we keep the group together.

We'll for sure be riding Rainbows for the first time end-to-end (probably twice, as that trail is functionally complete at this point and needs to be ridden in. Beyond that, who knows what else we'll ride? See you Saturday morning!
