Buena Vista Trailwork Underway/No Ride Saturday A.M.

No Ride This Weekend: Hey Everyone! Hope you've had a great couple of weeks off and enjoyed riding in our volunteering for the Tour of the White Mountains event. Looks like we'll be taking an unexpected extra week off from our Saturday morning group rides. It is already wet in the Buena Vista area with a lot more rain on the way for tonight and tomorrow. It didn't make sense to schedule a Cycle Mania group ride given the almost certainty of a rain out tomorrow morning . . . so we didn't bother with it. But hey, who's going to complain when we all know how badly we need this rain.

Buena Vista Trailwork: The good news is that the TRACKS trail crew was hard at work last Monday taking care of some work on an old legacy portion of the old Buena (roughly between BV4 and BV 7 that is being retained as part of the new trail system layout. Look for that work between roughly the bottom of El Cucuy/Flintstone and running up the old "Man Enough" Strava segment, up and over the hill to Differential on the other side. The work is being done to clean up the trail tread, address drainage issues and improve the sustainability of the trail. More work is planned on that section this coming Monday . . . if the weather cooperates with that plan. Be patient with this work. Sometimes new water diversions take a few weeks to compact to become the size we actually want them to be when they are mature. The rain we are getting should speed that process up, but still will need time for them to come in the way we want them to be.

Thanks to the TRACKS trail crew for the love they are giving our favorite trail system!!! They are doing an awesome job.

Status of BV Trailsystem Approval: You might be asking, well, where are we with the approval of the new trail system with the forest service? Well, we were expecting approval before the end of the month. But that was before the United States government closed up shop. What impact does that have on us getting a Determination Letter issued? We're not sure exactly. When we know something, you'll know something.

Halloween Ride?: So are we having a Halloween Ride? Good question. The plan had been to put up Halloween decorations this weekend. With the rain, that isn't going to be possible most likely. If we do have ride, it is likely to be on Halloween night, October 31, which falls on a Friday this year. We'll see what happens, but if we can't get decorations up we may skip it this year.
