Blue Ridge Construction/Saturday Group Ride

Blue Ridge Trail Construction:

Isn't it great to see progress on our trail system here in the White Mountains? Construction for a new short loop for the Blue Ridge Trail began approximately two weeks ago. Shawn Gregory from Big Loop Trails has been machining in a new piece of single-track that will create a short loop from the Blue Ridge trailhead off of Sky-High Retreat Rd. About a mile of trail had been roughed in as of last Friday.

It just shows that progress does happen, albeit slowly sometimes. This portends good things for the Buena, which is a project that is much larger in scope.

Thanks to Steve Dobbs, TRACKS, the USFS, and Big Loops Trails for making this happen! TRACKS is soon going to need to start finish work on this trail to make it pretty. Let's try to get a big boost from the MTB community when the time is right to give TRACKS a hand. It will be announced here when finish work begins.

Saturday Ride Information:

Well, well. Wasn't that snow last Saturday morning a big surprise! The week before we had summer temperatures for our first group ride and then . . . boom! Winter was back with us suddenly. Good thing we decided against the group ride a few days in advance.

The bones are calling!

The weather looks to be much improved this weekend, however. As such, there will be a group ride this Saturday starting from the Buena Vista Trailhead off of U.S. 60. The ride will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. A twelve to fifteen-mile ride is planned with the exact route to me improvised as we go along as usual. We should be back at the trailhead about 10:00 a.m. or a little thereafter. Intermediate MTB skills are recommended for riding in the Buena. This is just a nice social no-drop ride. Come out and enjoy the weather. It should be sunny and about 60 degrees at ride time with a forecast high of 72. Can it get better? I think not.
